Neil Cowley is a jazz pianist who originally trained as a classical pianist, worked with the Brand New Heavies, and has now found his niche as the leader of a jazz piano trio. Their style is very interactive and constantly builds up to musical climaxes reminiscent of minimalism (Steve Reich, Philip Glass et al.) The trio’s latest album The Face of Mount Molehill adds a string section to the trio and broadens the musical range and dynamics of the group. Reaction to an early performance of this music at Cheltenham Jazz festival in 2011 was extremely positive.
