Including music from: Star Wars, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Star Trek, The Planets, E.T.: The Extra Terrestrial, Independence Day, Red Dwarf, Stargate, Thunderbirds.
Back by popular demand, Carl Davis takes the CBSO on a fantastic journey through some of the greatest music ever inspired by space, science-fiction and fantasy. From favourite symphonic classics – Holst’s spectacular voyage through The Planets, and Strauss’s immense Also sprach Zarathustra (2001: A Space Odyssey) – to the unforgettable themes from E.T. and Star Trek, tonight’s music is out of-this-world! And after the interval, treat yourself to a Star Wars ‘sonorama’ as Carl and the Orchestra perform a super selection from the soundtracks to all six of the Star Wars blockbusters, as a tribute to John Williams in his 80th birthday year.
