CBSO Nelsons conducts Sibelius - Matinee
Symphony Hall
This event is archived
Jean Sibelius conducted one of the CBSO’s very first concerts – and his music has been a Birmingham tradition ever since. Tonight, Sibelius’s Second Symphony gets the Andris Nelsons treatment, and if you know and love this great Finnish epic, that’ll be enough to get your pulse racing. If you don’t – well, you’ll be swept away! First, though, enjoy the playful wit of Beethoven’s most personal piano concerto and the soaring passion of the composer Nelsons loves more than any other: Richard Wagner.

*Please note that Andris Nelsons has had to withdraw from this concert as he has had to return home to Riga, where his baby daughter is in intensive care. The CBSO wishes them all well, and are very grateful to Michael Seal, the CBSO’s Associate Conductor, for agreeing to stand in at short notice. The programme remains unchanged.
