Birmingham’s central role in the Enlightenment and the Industrial Revolution was partly influenced by the Lunar Society, which counted James Watt, Joseph Priestly and Erasmus Darwin – grandfather of famous Origin of the Species author Charles Darwin – amongst its members. At the close of the bicentenary of Charles Darwin’s birth, eminent biologist Professor Steve Jones looks to the next 200 years: is human evolution over?
