John Williams & John Etheridge
Town Hall

John Williams and John Etheridge will present a programme which features solo sets from each of them. They will join together for a specially commissioned piece by the British composer Paul Hart, original compositions by John Etheridge and John Williams, and some of the music from the African continent, Mali and Madagascar, which they have developed during their association of the last few years. John Williams will be playing his classical guitar (of course!), and John Etheridge will be playing his electric and acoustic steel string guitars.
‘Malinke Guitars, Williams’s adaptation of three Malian tunes, had a churning groove that refracted the African motifs into something resembling Spanish-tinged minimalism. Williams is that rare thing, a “serious” musician who delights in playing within non-classical contexts without compromising his roots.’ The Guardian.
‘Together they made charming music that bridged their different worlds while allowing scope to display their individual skills.’
