One of Birmingham’s oldest established choirs, Birmingham Choral Union, returns to the Elgar Hall to perform one of the best loved choral works, the magnificent Requiem Mass.

The fact that the piece was unfinished at Mozart’s death has spawned an ongoing controversy as to “who wrote what”; but fortunately the beauty and power of the music leaves an unforgettable impression on the listener, regardless of the true origin of the various movements.

The Requiem is accompanied by another great choral work, a setting of Psalm 42, As the Hart Pants, by Mendelssohn, which although not often performed deserves your attention.
