Widely regarded as one of the most brilliant songwriters of her generation, New York singer songwriter Suzanne Vega emerged as a leading figure of the folk-music revival of the early 1980s when, accompanying herself on acoustic guitar, she sang what has been labelled contemporary folk or neo-folk songs of her own creation in Greenwich Village clubs. Since the release of her self-titled, critically acclaimed 1985 debut album, she continues to give sold-out concerts in many of the world’s best-known venues.

Her debut album Suzanne Vega released in 1985 was a platinum-selling success. With two hit singles Luka and Tom’s Diner featured on her next album, Solitude Standing (1987), the undeniable talents were firmly established in the hearts and minds of legions of fans around the world.

Since then, with a total of 8 solo albums and songs featured on soundtracks of major Hollywood films, the commercial and critical acclaim for this incredible singer/songwriter, who wrote her first song at the tender age of fourteen, continues.

In August 2006, Suzanne Vega became the first major recording artist to perform in avatar form in the online virtual world, Second Life. In 2007, her last album release – the deeply personal Beauty & Crime – Vega’s talents as a singer/songwriter are displayed like never before. Beauty & Crime is that rare album by an artist in her third decade; an album that is as original and startling as her first. Beauty & Crime won a Grammy for Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical.

Suzanne Vega, a long-standing supporter of Casa Alianza, maintains her commitment to child rights and is delighted to be headlining this 10th Anniversary Benefit Concert. Casa Alianza Charity provides care, rehabilitation and legal aid for street children in Central America & Mexico.
