Legendary trumpeter Wynton Marsalis brings the Olympians of American jazz to Symphony Hall for a very special concert to celebrate the presence in Birmingham of their sporting counterparts, the US Olympic track and field team. They’re the best big band in the world, and their athleticism, energy and sheer joy make this an unmissable event.
These outstanding musicians are under starter’s orders: it’s ready, steady, go for a foot-tapping, feel-good concert of the very best of American big band swing by the likes of Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Dizzy Gillespie and more. The evening will also showcase modern compositions and arrangements of JLCO members, whose dynamic works serve as vibrant examples in the continuum of swing.
