The brilliance of popular pieces by the young Britten is matched by two other exuberant masterworks by composers also in their twenties: the quirky charm of Prokofiev and the rugged impetuosity of Beethoven’s Second Piano Concerto played by Angela Hewitt and the outstanding Britten Sinfonia:
I haven’t heard a chamber orchestra performing with such extrovert character and unflagging energy for years. Richard Morrison, The Times.
|Beethoven||Piano Concerto No 2||27’|
|Britten||Variations on a theme of Frank Bridge||24’|
|Prokofiev||Symphony No 1, Classical||16’|
