Schools

‘Children from all backgrounds […] should have the opportunity to learn a musical instrument; to make music with others; to learn to sing; and to have the opportunity to progress to the next level of excellence’.
The Importance of Music – A National Plan for Music Education, Department of Education.

The work of THSH’s Education and Community Department supports teaching music in the classroom by offering; workshops, concerts, shows, lectures, Inset sessions and extended learning opportunities which open up progression routes and deeper engagement with music.

Our programmes and projects create opportunities for access and participation in musical activity but most importantly recognises that this is just the start. Our vision for learning is about deep-rooted, long-term change, by finding the ways and means to encourage progression so that children and young people can develop their growing interest in music, sustain their new-found skills and use them to flourish.
