Prestigious piano competition - winner announced
The prestigious annual Robert William and Florence Amy Brant Piano Competition has been won by the young British pianist Ashley Fripp.
Adjudicators William Fong, David Owen Norris and Paul Keene made the announcement at Town Hall yesterday (Sunday 1 July) following 40 minute performances by Ashley and finalists Slava Sidorenko and Ugnius Pauliukonis which featured music by Haydn, Rachmaninov, Hamelin, Schubert, Scriabin, Chopin, Bach and Liszt.
Now in its 33rd year, this prestigious competition has a first prize of £3,000 plus recital engagements at Town Hall and the Barber Institute of Fine Arts amongst others, and provides young pianists with the chance to further their careers and perform in world-class venues.
Miss Gladys Lily Brant (1915-2011), a passionate music lover, founded the Piano Competition in 1979 in memory of her parents. Miss Brant attended many concerts at Town Hall during her life – including a recital by Rachmaninov in 1938 – and had a particular devotion to Beethoven’s music.blog comments powered by Disqus
