Poems for Programmes

Julie sometimes invites guest poets to contribute poems to programmes. Since the Playing with Words initiative began she has also encouraged concert goers at THSH and people she has met on outreach workshops and readings to send poems inspired by music or by the life of THSH to her at: julie@julieboden.co.uk. These poems are sometimes included in programmes, a few of which are exhibited on the notice board on the Symphony Hall Level 3 foyer.

So far, apart from Julie’s own poetry, poems by the following poets have been included in concert programmes: Roger Dunn, David Hart, Cathy Perry, Fiona Sampson, Mark Storey, Judy Tweddle, Zoe Tuckley and Catherine Whittaker. Although we have a wealth of wonderful poems to include and are happy to receive more poems in the future, it often takes a long time before happy marriages between particular poems and specific concerts can be found.

If you are inspired by a concert you have been to or if you are inspired by a particular piece of music, instrumentalist, conductor or composer, a particular place at Town Hall or Symphony Hall or by the experience of watching audience members or people that work here – then please do send your poetry to Julie.

Here are a few of Julie’s poems that have been included in recent programmes. Please click on the titles below if you would like to read them.
