Tchaikovsky's Sixth
Sat 10 Nov Symphony Hall
Talented young French conductor Ludovic Morlot makes a quick return to the CBSO following his debut in May, for two performances of Tchaikovsky’s tumultuous final symphony. Never out of fashion since its premiere just a few days before the composer’s death, the Pathétique is one of music’s most personal utterances, a vivid portrayal of the composer’s state of mind that offers a rollercoaster emotional journey from elation to despair. Bartók’s music is altogether less unhinged, though his energetic Second Piano Concerto is an equally thrilling experience in concert. Dvorák’s tuneful overture begins the programme in exuberant style. There will be a Bequest Patrons' reception prior to the concert on 7 November.

Ocean Colour Scene Pure Acoustic. Plus Support
Thu 17 Apr Town Hall
Since last April’s studio album _On the Leyline_, Ocean Colour Scene spent the majority of 2007 doing what they do best, performing live to fans not only in the UK but taking in countries as far a field as Korea and Japan. A busy year indeed on the road which ended with the annual “OCS Christmas tour” which guitarist Steve Cradock spoke of recently on the band's website diary, “We really enjoyed these gigs, the response from the crowd was immense and only enhanced our performance.” The sell out dates included fantastic gigs in London, Liverpool, Birmingham, Newcastle and three sell out nights at the Barrowlands, Glasgow. Last summer saw the band performing at various festivals home and abroad, notably the V-Festivals and T-in-the-Park, which had fans rushing to the large tents to get inside. A testament to how popular this band still are after all these years, and the crowds it is capable of drawing in. On to 2008 where the lads have just recently announced a UK and Ireland Acoustic tour during April, playing at venues they have either not done before or haven’t visited for some time. “The lads and I are doing a small acoustic tour in April playing songs we never play, B-sides, album tracks, that kind of thing, don’t expect _Riverboat_ or _Day We Caught the Train_ we're hoping for it to be a bit more obscure, I'm looking forward to this, it will make a real change playing forgotten songs” explains Steve.
