Orchestra of the Swan: Tasmin Little plays Mendelssohn

Tasmin Little

In 2009 we celebrate the 200th anniversary of the birth of Mendelssohn and the death of Haydn with two of their most iconic works. Composed at the height of his powers, Haydn’s Surprise Symphony is full of wit, humour and of course, surprises – and like all the best jokes, it can be told again and again. In contrast, Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto is elegant and refined: for many music lovers it is the ‘perfect’ concerto. We are delighted to have Tasmin Little, one of the UK’s most outstanding violinists, as soloist for this afternoon’s concert.

‘… a bravura performance from both soloist and orchestra which moved forward to a frenetic and breathtaking climax.’ MusicWeb on Tasmin Little with Orchestra of the Swan Full review

‘Tasmin Little’s warm personality and evident joy in engaging with music and her audience made her an excellent partner with David Curtis in this happy occasion, with a packed house and a family atmosphere… Mendelssohn’s Violin concerto received a beautiful performance from Tasmin Little, balanced between the romantic and the classical, delicate and sweetly voiced in the second movement, bubbling with vitality in the finale. Like the whole evening, a delight from start to finish.’ Birmingham Post on Tasmin Little with Orchestra of the Swan
