Despite a lack of evidence, the legend that Salieri poisoned Mozart out of jealousy has been fixed in people’s minds by the film Amadeus. The older composer could certainly spin a good tune, but judge for yourselves whether he comes anywhere near the genius of two of Mozart’s most delightful.
