Windrush - 60th Anniversary Commemoration

An inspiring evening commemorating 22 June 1948, the date SS Empire Windrush discharged her Caribbean passengers at Tilbury, Essex. The event will feature gospel singing led by Deseta Davis, a reflection by a Christian Aid partner from Jamaica, poetry by Beverley McKenzie of the Black Reading Group, and an extract from Let my people go- praise, poems and Pentecost, an upcoming theatre production commissioned by The Churches Racial Justice Network and focusing on the theme of migration.

The opening address will be given by the Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Councillor Chauhdry Rashid and the Lady Mayoress, Shafait Begum Rashid will also be present. The evening is hosted by diversity champion and activist Khembe Clarke and the guest speaker is Dr R David Muir, director of public policy, Evangelical Alliance.
