Maria João Pires teams up with rising star Miloš Popović to play piano duos – a one-off meeting of two extraordinary musical personalities.
Something magical happens when two great pianists sit down together, and in this second concert of her short Birmingham residency Pires shares that joy with Popović in duos by Schumann, plus Beethoven’s mighty Appassionata sonata.
Neither artist is a stranger here in Birmingham – Popović received a warm welcome at Town Hall in 2016. But the opportunity to hear them together is something rare, especially in music as intimate and as inventive as Schumann’s. There’ll be a chance to hear their solo artistry too, and Schumann’s Waldszenen and Beethoven’s great Op 57 are pieces to prove the mettle of any great pianist.
