Mirga Gražinyte-Tyla conducts Birmingham Contemporary Music Group for the first time, in a celebration of a very American genius: Elliott Carter.
Elliott Carter was a genuine living legend – the playful, brilliantly intelligent modern master who wrote his last pieces at the age of 103. This one-off celebration of his music at Town Hall brings together the very best that Birmingham has to offer, as we transform Town Hall with a performance on the flat.
It’ll be thrilling to hear the CBSO’s dynamic new music director working with the hand-picked players of Birmingham Contemporary Music Group. But they'll also be joined by pianist Pierre-Laurent Aimard, one of the world’s leading interpreters of new music who has long been associated with Carter’s music. A concert to refresh the spirit, and a chance to get to know one of twentieth century music’s most fascinating personalities.
