Two great 20th century composers and a friendship that crossed cultures are the inspiration behind this superb new multinational orchestra, tonight making their first ever Birmingham appearance. Of course, they’re playing Britten and Shostakovich. 

But with Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture and Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet there’s a real mood of celebration – not to mention the magnificent young Russian pianist Pavel Kolesnikov in Rachmaninov’s hugely popular Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini.
