After Sakari Oramo left Birmingham in 2008, he went to Sweden – and gave the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic a taste of the energy and freshness he brought to the CBSO. This is the first Birmingham appearance since 1991 for this famous Scandinavian orchestra, and with a sonic earthquake from Victoria Borisova-Ollas, Sibelius’s symphonic blockbuster, and the nation’s favourite violinist Nicola Benedetti playing Prokofiev’s zingy Second Concerto, it should be little short of spectacular.
