So what exactly is an orchestra? Why is the piccolo so small? Why are the double basses so big? And what is a xylophone supposed to sound like anyway? Don’t worry: Benjamin Britten has got it covered. With a bit of help from presenter Catherine Arlidge and conductor Jaume Santonja Espinós, plus music by Tchaikovsky, Beethoven and John Williams, this fun-filled concert for all the family will show you exactly how it all works.

Age guidance: Suitable for children aged 5–11
