Women, both as composer and as inspiration, are the foundation for Chinese pianist Di Xiao’s return to Town Hall. Described as “a pianist of awesome gifts” Xiao has toured many of the world’s most prestigious halls from her professional base in the Midlands.

In this programme she celebrates women in music by intertwining works both historical and contemporary, including Robert and Clara Schumann’s music dedications to each other, British composer Cecilia Mcdowall, and the timeless pieces inspired by Chopin’s muses Countess Delfina Potorka and George Sand. The programme culminates with prolific composer Mélanie Hélène Bonis’ tribute to legendary women.
