From the first, stirring bars of Elgar’s Organ Sonata, you’re never in any doubt that you’re listening to the composer of the Enigma Variations. Today, City Organist Thomas Trotter brings Elgar’s greatest masterpiece for organ back home, to the hall where Elgar played – and an organ he would have known well. It doesn’t get much more authentic than this; works by Bach, Buxtehude and Wagner provide an ideal musical setting.
