Two great traditions – one great instrument. Birmingham City Organist Thomas Trotter begins his 2017 series of lunchtime organ recitals at Symphony Hall, and he opens with two supreme German masters: Johann Sebastian Bach and George Frederic Handel. Then the scene shifts to France, from Gounod’s deliciously droll Funeral March (think Alfred Hitchcock), to the sheer, blazing sonic splendour of Bonnal’s Cloches dans le ciel: “Bells in the heavens”.
