“No man is more to be pitied, and none can soften his cruel fate”. When Mozart retold the tale of the hero Idomeneo and his fatal vow to the god Neptune, he unleashed the whole of his youthful genius. The result was a gripping tragedy of war, fate and human love, set to music of blazing power. When the CBSO goes to the opera, it’s always a special occasion; this concert performance under Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla will be no exception.
Sung in Italian with English surtitles. There will be a 20-minute interval after Act 1 and a 60-minute interval after Act 2.
