14-year-old boy banned from performing in drag at his school meets RuPaul's Drag Race Winner

A 14-year-old boy banned from performing in drag at his school met  RuPaul's Drag Race winner Bianca Del Rio at Symphony Hall last night.

The pupil of a Dudley School, who performs under the name Athena Heart, has been doing drag for the last five months after watching RuPaul's Drag Race on Netflix. He was banned from performing his drag act at the school's end-of-year talent show.

They claim it's because it is illegal - but I think the real reason is they don't accept me for who I am. I'm heart broken and confused. After all the effort I have put into it, it has knocked my confidence a lot. When I'm in drag I feel I'm truly being myself.

Since his school ban became public he has been invited to meet and perform with stars of the show across the UK. Last night at Symphony Hall, Athena Heart met the self-proclaimed “clown in a gown” ahead of her sold-out show in Birmingham.

And after appearances on BBC Radio 2 and Sky News, Athena found a fair share of fans in the audience last night, with many of those sat nearby scrambling for photos before the show and at the interval.
