15,000 visit Town Hall & Symphony Hall over ArtsFest weekend

Town Hall and Symphony Hall celebrated Artsfest with a programme of free events showcasing performances from the Town Hall Associate Artists such as the acclaimed Ex Cathedra, Black Voices and the Town Hall Gospel Choir.

Artsfest also marks the culmination of a long term project in which The BBC Big Band have been mentoring Ladywood Community Big Band, The Notebenders (pictured).

Over 15,000 people visited Town Hall and Symphony Hall on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, helping to make up more than 270,000 visitors to the city centre over the whole weekend.

Radio 3?s Jazz Line Up recorded the performances of Percy Pursglove and Ben Markland in the main hall which will feature in a Birmingham Scene programme on Jazz Line Up to be broadcast soon.

The programme will also include excerpts from the BBC Big Band/Notebenders gig at Town Hall.

Other highlights included taster sessions for our free foyer series such as Mid-day Mantra, featuring the magical singing of Faheem Mazhar and the brand new Folk for Free, performed by Elfynn, blending contemporary and traditional tunes.
