A royal visit for milestone moment

On Monday 10 February 2020, the revered Birmingham City Organist, Thomas Trotter celebrated a milestone 800th recital.

To mark the occasion, HRH The Duke of Kent attended the Symphony Hall performance along with pupils and staff from Devonshire Junior Academy and admiring audiences from the city and beyond.

The Duke's personal passion for music is reflected in his support for many musical organisations, from the London Philharmonic Orchestra and Opera North, to the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in Greenwich, one of the UK's leading music colleges, and to regional festivals such as those at Newbury and King's Lynn.

In recent months, we’ve found many ways to share our appreciation of Devonshire Junior Academy, after pupils from the Sandwell school named a new road after Symphony Hall.

As a registered charity, we have one mission and that is to inspire a love of live music, through performance, participation and learning. Each year, Town Hall and Symphony Hall connects over 18,000 young people and adults to a world of music and performance across the West Midlands. By recognising the happiness and creativity that Symphony Hall inspired in the pupils of Devonshire Junior Academy, this enables us to build stronger connections to our communities and promote the importance of music education. It was important to us that we gave something special back to the students and staff at the school.
