Event Info

Two of the UK’s leading a capella groups, Black Voices and the London Adventist Chorale join together for an evening concert of spiritual, contemporary and gospel song at Town Hall, Birmingham on Friday 6 June.

The highlight of the programme will be the inspirational and spectacular Hallelujah Chorus from Messiah: Soulful Celebration, which will also feature the Town Hall Gospel Choir, a group of singers from across Birmingham formed for the Reopening Concert in October 2007. Arrangements of Deep River, Rejoice Greatly and All My Trials will be performed alongside Rejoice O Daughter and Smallwood Medley.

2008 sees Black Voices celebrating 21 years of music, having taken their remarkable and soulful sound to audiences both internationally and across the UK. Led by Carol Pemberton and Bob Ramdhanie and with a wonderful repertoire ranging from American Deep South spiritual blues to traditional Caribbean gospel, Black Voices are Associate Artists of Town Hall Birmingham.

Recent highlights for the group have included performing for Nelson Mandela in South Africa and London, performing for the Royal family and the Pope, supporting Ray Charles and performing in the BBC Proms. Black Voices have also had their own BBC Radio 2 a cappella series, presented by Carol Pemberton.

The London Adventist Chorale formed in 1981 and have been singing Western, African and Caribbean songs at concert halls and special events across the world since. Led by charismatic principal conductor Ken Burton, the church based choir won the prestigious title Sainsbury Choir of the Year, have toured with the legendary trumpeter Wynton Marsalis and have produced music for a number of TV and radio broadcasts.
