Alexander Panfilov has been announced as the winner of the 2013 Brant International Piano Competition, after a challenging final which also saw young pianists Grace Yeo (2nd place) and Krzysztof Moskalewicz (3rd place) compete for the prestigious prize.
The pianist, a RCNM graduate and winner of the 2013 Arcangelo Speranzo International Piano Competition, was selected by judges following performances at Town Hall on Saturday 29 June.
The three finalists were chosen following two days of performances at the Barber Institute of the Fine Arts, on 22 and 23 June, which saw over 20 young pianists perform in front of judges William Fong, Carole Presland and Richard Hawley.
Each of the finalists gave a 40 minute recital of repertoire of their choice before the winner is announced. The first prize includes a number of recital opportunities – including one at Town Hall Birmingham – along with £3000, whilst second and third placed competitors will receive £2000 and £1000 respectively.
