Commercial - introducing Rachael Bourke

Hello! I am the new Sales Executive in the THSH Commercial team, working alongside Commercial Manager Catherine McGlone.

I have only been here a month and already the job has proven to be incredibly varied. My role is predominantly to book Town Hall and Symphony Hall for commercial events; ranging from conferences, exhibitions, awards ceremonies, drinks receptions, corporate dinners and weddings too.

I convert telephone calls and emails into bookings. Throughout the week we try to organise as many Town Hall site tours with clients as possible; people are generally mesmerised by the beauty of the building and find it hard not to book their event here after seeing it!

Attending networking events is vital to the role as getting to know as many people around the area as possible increases our status as a commercial hire venue. The setup of Town Hall for events is extremely versatile and it really looks incredible every time whatever the occasion; for example, at the Style Birmingham LIVE events, and the launch of our new partnership with caterers Amadeus.

I feel proud to be involved with THSH and enjoy promoting both venues, they are so unique in different ways. Town Hall’s stunning Roman revival civic architecture emphasises its prominence. Standing opposite the Council House, the grandeur of the two buildings complement each other perfectly and add character to this part of the city. There aren’t many places in Birmingham that have been host to such a wide range of performances; from Charles Dicken’s reading of A Christmas Carol to the Rolling Stones to the performances from high-profile artists and comedians that we host throughout the year.

The more contemporary Symphony Hall is certainly grander in terms of size. It is renowned for its world class acoustics and as being one of the best concert halls in the world. There is no other venue in the city that can compare to it. I genuinely feel that when people hold an event here it gives them a greater sense of occasion than you might get from other venues.

I am a big fan of comedy and since beginning at THSH I have been very lucky to see some great acts; Bill Bailey, Russell Brand and soon to come, Milton Jones and Jimmy Carr. I am passionate about music and have a quite an eclectic taste, ranging from funk and soul, Motown, hip-hop, reggae, rhythm and blues, and folk. Another perk of working for a concert venue like this is that I am exposed to different types of music on a regular basis!
