24-year old Edward Pick (seated) has won the prestigious Robert William & Florence Amy Brant International Pianoforte Competition.
The young British pianist impressed the judges with his performance of Haydn, Debussy and Lutoslawski and takes home the £3000 prize. Kodo Osada and Jun Ishimura were second and third, winning £2000 and £1000 respectively. The three finalists were selected from an initial 22 entrants by a distinguished jury comprising Andrew Ball FRCM (pianist and Professor at the Royal College of Music), Mark Bebbington (pianist, himself a former Brant competition winner), and Paul Keene (Director of Programming, Town Hall & Symphony Hall). Each of the finalists gave a 40 minute recital of their own choice of music at Town Hall Birmingham on Saturday 12 July.
