Festival season! Stian Westerhus at Supersonic

Over the last few weeks, the city of Birmingham has seen a handful of fantastic festivals take place, including the Birmingham Zine Festival, the OxjamBrum Takeover Festival, Birmingham Comedy Festival, Eye Candy and the Birmingham Book Festival.

Still to come: the Birmingham Beer Festival, the Black International Film Festival and Supersonic.

One of the UK’s most distinctive, dynamic, experimental and multi-disciplinary arts festivals, Supersonic celebrates its tenth anniversary this year and has grown from a one day event into an internationally renowned weekend of art, music and film along with other crafts.

Jazzlines have collaborated with promoters Capsule in the last three years suggesting one band for inclusion in the programme.

Stian Westerthus is a Norwegain avant-jazz guitarist and composer, known for his particularly wild experimental style which, as journalist Fiona Talkington puts it, produces “dirty, physical music that never lets you forget that at the heart of it is a human being playing a slab of wood with some strings on it”.
