A short film which takes a look behind the scenes at work undertaken by Symphony Hall, the International Convention Centre and the City of Birmingham before, during and after this year’s Conservative Party Conference is now available to view.
The ‘Aspirational Nation’ film, produced by Chris Elkerton and predominantly shot in time-lapse, aims to showcase the way in which the city of Birmingham, the ICC, Symphony Hall and other partners come together to host an event of such magnitude.
Symphony Hall, managed alongside Town Hall by the independent charity Performances Birmingham Limited, played a central role in CPC12, which took place between Sunday 7 and Wednesday 10 October 2012, hosting major appearances and speeches including from the Prime Minister David Cameron, Mayor of London Boris Johnson, Culture Secretary Maria Miller and Mayor of New York Michael Bloomberg amongst others.
During his visit, David Cameron unveiled a commemorative plaque marking 21 years since the ICC and Symphony Hall were officially opened by HM The Queen in 1991.
‘In 21 years, Symphony Hall has made a significant contribution to the cultural and social fabric of the City of Birmingham, as well as firmly claiming its place on the global music map. We bring the best musicians and performers in the world to Birmingham, underpinning the city?s international reputation as well as connecting audience members to music in their millions. And though best known as one of the world?s great concert halls, Symphony Hall also offers a stunning and unique backdrop for speeches and presentations. 2012 has been a fantastic year for Symphony Hall, and we are delighted the Prime Minister has chosen to help us celebrate this significant milestone.’ – Andrew Jowett OBE, chief executive of Town Hall and Symphony Hall
2012 marks the second consecutive time David Cameron has chosen to deliver his keynote speech from the stage of Symphony Hall, which has also played host to stars of music and entertainment such as Bruce Springsteen, Liza Minnelli, Ravi Shankar, John Malkovich and many of the worlds greatest orchestras, condusctors and soloists.
Symphony Hall, alongside sister venue Town Hall, is regularly used for graduation ceremonies, conferences, private receptions, annual meetings, and film and television work.
