Young Birmingham musicians with a passion for jazz are being invited to apply for the first ever Jazzlines Summer School, to be held at Birmingham Conservatoire between Monday 6 August and Friday 10 August 2012.
The exciting new development, programmed by the Jazzlines and Education and Community teams at Town Hall and Symphony Hall, offers instrumentalists and vocalists aged between 14 -19 an exciting opportunity to receive guidance and tuition in jazz performance, composition and ensemble playing.
The teaching team, a experienced group of music professionals and specialist jazz performers, composers and educators, will be lead by Percy Pursglove, Sara Colman and Andrew Bain, and supported by the Jazzlines Ensemble trio of Ric Yarborough, James Banner and Reuben James.
Each day will run from 9.30am until 3.30pm with the exception of Friday 10 August, when Jazzlines Summer School participants will take part in a performance before invited family and friends ending at 4pm. There will also be follow up performance opportunities at the Free Jazz gigs in Symphony Hall CafÃ© Bar.
Twenty places are available to young jazz enthusiasts of approximately grade 5 standard in music.

Young people aged 10-14 who live or attend school in Birmingham and play a musical instrument to any standard are invited to apply for a week-long programme to be delivered by Town Hall & Symphony Hall and UFA between Monday 6 to Friday 10 August 2012 (9.30am and 3.30pm).
During the week participants will take part in workshops with professional musicians and develop instrumental, performance, composition and teamwork skills during exciting projects supervised by a team of talented and enthusiastic staff and volunteers.
The challenge takes place at the Symphony Hall complex on Broad Street in central Birmingham; each day runs from 9.30am – 3.30pm except for Friday when you will perform to an invited audience of family and friends at 3.30pm before saying goodbye.

Note to teachers/parents/carers:
Participants will be supervised by workshop tutors during the rehearsal sessions.
Lunch and break times will not be supervised and participants will be free to leave the premises. Travel to and from the summer school is the responsibility of the participant.
Registration will not take place until 9.30am each day.
Sessions will finish promptly at 3.30pm each day except Friday 10th August when the performance will finish at 4pm.
