Late and live hip hop launches at Town Hall

The launch of resonance events on Bank Holiday Sunday 25 May aims to keep it fresh and funky, paying respect to the lively marathon concerts of the 1950’s and 1960’s, which featured some of the world’s best jazz musicians like Dizzy Gillespie, Count Basie and Humphrey Lyttelton.

Beats, treats and vintage funk will be delivered by acclaimed London beat maniacs The Herbaliser, about to storm British hip hop again with stunning new album Same As It Never Was.

Skilful as ever behind the decks, Ollie Teeba and Jake Wherry team up with stunning vocalist Jessica Darling and five-piece band featuring Ralph Lamb, Andy Ross and local boy Chris Bowden for a night of turntable trickery, melodies laced with pure soul and funked up rhythms.

From the cinematic gangster soundscapes in Take London (2005) to memorable Glastonbury appearances way back when, The Herbaliser travel with a Ninja Tune pedigree and back catalogue of outstanding collaborations.

resonance events welcomes Substance main man and mixologist Chris Read back to Birmingham alongside charismatic mc and beatboxer Mad Flow for the very best in party music shot through with a rare groove flavour. Responsible for bringing artists like KRS One, De La Soul and Grandmaster Flash to these shores for performances, Substance has been a driving force in promoting hip-hop culture in the UK.
