As one of the first performances in this years BICS programme, we are delighted to welcome the Royal Danish Orchestra with internationally acclaimed soprano Magdalena Anna Hofmann who is making her UK debut in this concert. Magdalena originally completed her vocal training in Vienna and has gone on to perform on the stages of Europe’s leading stages including Teatro alla Scala, Milan with more recent engagements including lead roles with the Opéra de Lyon and Theater Bonn. You can listen to her by clicking here. We were lucky enough to catch up with Magdalena ahead of her flight here to the UK to discuss the music she’s listening to at the moment. Over to you Magdalena!
I am delighted and very, very happy to have my long awaited UK debut in Birmingham and I do hope the audience there will enjoy the concert! I am really excited to debut in Birmingham as it gives me the opportunity to perform in the highly acclaimed Symphony Hall singing one of my favourite operas, Schönberg`s Erwartung. It is quite a challenging piece; short but very complex, fragile and strong at same time. It allows me to express many different colours and emotions with the orchestra creating some truly magical moments. I really do hope you can join us on this musical journey! In the meantime, i thought I would share with you some of the songs that I’m listening to while we travel; it’s a very mixed selection, so I hope there’s something for everyone to enjoy,so without further ado – here are a few of the songs on repeat on my mp3 with some of the reasons why!
