On Saturday (11 February), blushing bride Molly Bird and her happy husband-to-be Andrew Owen became the first couple to marry in Town Hall Birmingham, making their marriage vows before family and friends on the historic stage.
Organist Paul Carr played the hall’s magnificent pipe organ as guests arrived to take their seats, and again afterwards as the wedding party made their way to the foyer for a drinks reception.
Later, with lighting dimmed and the organ lit, an intimate atmosphere was created for a celebratory meal served in the hall with the tables arranged in a horseshoe-shaped layout to allow room for a dance floor near the stage.
In fact, it was the groom’s own band The Aarrhythmics who provided the evening’s entertainment, playing a monster two-hour set…with a break for cheese and wedding cake!
A good time was had by all and Town Hall added another ‘first’ to its long history.
On behalf of all the staff here at THSH, we’d like to wish Molly and Andrew a very happy life together with plenty of wonderful adventures along the way.
We’re delighted with how the hall looked and worked for their big day, thanks to the hard work of our commercial team and colleagues in front of house, bars and hospitality and technical teams, plus the delicious professionalism of Redcliffe Catering.
We’re very much looking forward to hosting more ceremonies at both Town Hall and Symphony Hall in the future, from sweet and simple receptions to full-blown wedding celebrations! If you’d like to find out more about hiring either venue, please visit our dedicated site here
Happy Valentine’s Day!
