Sons of Kemet, who perform at Hare & Hounds later this year, have made The Hyundai Mercury Prize ‘Albums of the Year’ shortlist for their third studio album, Your Queen is a Reptile.
The Hyundai Mercury Prize ‘Albums of the Year’ celebrates and promotes the best of UK music recognising artistic achievement across a range of contemporary music genres. The shortlist was chosen by an independent judging panel and was revealed at our Launch event, hosted by BBC Music’s Huw Stephens.
Town Hall Symphony Hall's Jazzlines, in partnership with Leftfoot at the Hare & Hounds, present the iconoclastic mix of tenor sax, tuba and double drums at the Kings Heath venue this October.
Led by saxophonist Shabaka Hutchings, the MOBO award-winning Sons Of Kemet features Theon Cross on tuba and both Tom Skinner (Hello Skinny, Mulatu Astatke) and Eddie Hick (Roots Manuva, Gilad Atzmon) on drums. Hypnotic double drum rhythms frame the colourful interplay of saxophone and tuba as the original compositions are brought to life by four fiercely creative musicians.
