The Mechanical Musical Marvel makes BAFTA shortlist

We are very proud to say that The Mechanical Musical Marvel, an animation created by Chris Randall of Second Home Studios and featuring poetry from THSH poet in residence Julie Boden, has made it on to the jury shortlist for this year’s Children’s BAFTA Awards, in the Animation category!

Funded by the DMC McDonald Foundation, The Mechanical Musical Marvel was created for our Education and Community department as an educational tool to simply explain the inner workings of Symphony Hall’s pipe organ to children. As well as being available on-line, it forms the centrepiece of THSH’s Science of Sound Discovery Days which introduce Symphony Hall’s organ and stunning acoustics to Key Stage Two pupils in a fun and interactive way.

Previously, the film has been screened at several prestigious film festivals, including the Chicago International Children’s Film Festival, the Sarasota Film Festival and the New York International, as well as being shown on the BBC Big Screen in Birmingham’s Victoria Square. Final judging for the Children’s BAFTAs takes place in October, with the nominations being announced on October 23rd.
