THSH's Associate Orchestra, Orchestra of the Swan, release album with pianist Peter Donohoe

Town Hall Symphony Hall's Associate Orchestra, Orchestra of the Swan has released a brand-new Shostakovich album on Signum Classics with celebrated international pianist Peter Donohoe.

Peter Donohoe, one of the foremost pianists of our time, is a formidable exponent of Russian music who launched his highly successful international career as Silver Medal winner of the 1982 International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow. For this new recording he is accompanied by the Stratford-upon-Avon based Orchestra of the Swan, one of the most successful chamber orchestras in the UK.

Under the baton of Artistic Director David Curtis, this excellent recording of Shostakovich Piano Concertos 1 & 2 and Sonatas 1 & 2, is musical bliss from start to finish; Donohoe's virtuosic yet sensitive playing leaves nothing more to be desired and the orchestra plays with virtuosity and insight.

Orchestra of the Swan has made some notable recordings in its 21 years, but this new album “goes to the top of the list”, said David Mellor (Classic FM). The CD is Album of the Week on the Classic FM website and is also available to purchase online.

Peter Donohoe will be performing Shostakovich’s Piano Concerto no2 with Orchestra of the Swan on 14 March 2018 at Town Hall Birmingham.
