Members of the Jazzlines Talent Development programmes showcased music they had learnt in the free monthly sessions which take place at Symphony Hall as part of the Jazzlines programme.
The free event featured Chris Young and his band, starring the young musicians aged 10-18 that had been learning from the masters through free monthly workshops at Symphony Hall, performing special arrangements of the band's own music and even performing alongside them! The young musicians even worked with the band to compose their very on piece, that was played for the crowd on Friday.
The night also featured a vocal group from the talent development programme, lead by Anthony Marsden, with the help of Frankie Dodwell.
It is really reassuring to see this group of young people who were previously quite reserved, relish the opportunity to perform for hundreds of people in the symphony hall foyer. It is certainly affirming for me to see them engage with a wide range of musical styles and techniques with enthusiasm and ease. I hope this group can continue to expand and develop long into the future so that they can experience this many times over, the audience loved them!Anthony Marsden
It has been a wonderful opportunity to work with these amazing young musicians. Their efforts in learning and performing my music is very inspiring and it is great to see the future of jazz in Birmingham is in safe hands! The opportunities available through the Jazzlines Talent Development programme are incredible and I look forward to seeing them develop over the next few years.Chris Young, Jazzlines Ensemble tutor
