The official ceremony will take place on 15th April 2018 and will see young people and artists from across Birmingham come together as part of the Closing Ceremony of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Rapper Lady Sanity, choreographer Rosie Kay and film maker Daniel Alexander have recently been announced as taking part in Birmingham's Handover ceremony, which will take place split between the Carrara Stadium, Australia, and live from Birmingham.

The handover ceremony is an incredible opportunity for the people of Birmingham to put the city's amazing culture, diversity, youth and energy on the world stage. The Commonwealth Games in Birmingham will be brilliant for the whole country, help drive economic growth across the region and leave a strong sport legacy.

2,022 young people will come together in a secret city-centre location  for a performance choreographed by Rosie Kay that will be broadcast live to one billion people and celebrate Birmingham's status as one of the youngest and most diverse cities in the UK, showing off what the city has to offer ready for the games in four years time.

Rosie Kay spoke about what the performance meant to her, and what a fantastic opportunity the event is for young people across Birmingham.

I am hugely exited and inspired by what this Commonwealth Games can do and say about young people and Birmingham today. It’s a fantastic challenge and opportunity both for myself and for the young people that will sign up to be part of this welcome to Birmingham. Dance is about challenging perceptions and exciting audiences and what better way to bring Birmingham to life across the world than with a choreographed, fun, mass dance performance!

Rosie Kay, Choreographer
