The Birmingham International Piano Competition remains committed to the art of the piano recital, and provides young pianists the chance to further their careers and perform in world class venues. This year, the Final Round will be presented 'in the round' (see image on the right), and once again the Competition will award three pianists – one winner and two runners-up – with a monetary prize as follows, as well as a recital engagement at Town Hall, Birmingham for the winner:
First Prize: £3,000 plus a recital at Town Hall, Birmingham *
Second Prize: £2,000
Third Prize: £1,000
Audience Prize: £500
The competition will be held in three rounds as follows:
First Round: Saturday 17 June 2017, Barber Institute of Fine Arts, Birmingham
Semi-Final Round: Sunday 18 June 2017, Barber Institute of Fine Arts, Birmingham
Final Round: Saturday 1 July 2017, Town Hall, Birmingham - presented 'in the round' with no piano lid (see image above)
This year's competition jury will consist of pianist Nelly Akopian-Tamarina, academic, juror and critic Bryce Morrison, and Head of Artistic Programming at Town Hall Symphony Hall, Richard Hawley.
