The CBSO's 2019-20 concert season is the first of two very special Centenary seasons. Join them in celebrating our 100th birthday as they not only honour their past, but create the music of the future, with thrilling concerts that look both backwards and forwards; with major premieres and special events, including a series of new commissions from some of the boldest composers in the world today.
Music Director Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla puts new spins on symphonic music by Mahler, Beethoven, Brahms and more, complete with world-class performers including our very own family of CBSO Choruses. In true celebratory style, she also conducts stunning symphonic music by Holst, Bruckner, and Varèse. They’re delighted to welcome back our Principal Guest Conductor, Kazuki Yamada, along with a stellar selection of soloists, both familiar friends and new. Their Friday Night Classics concerts return bigger and better than ever with out-of-this-world movie music, silky-smooth classical favourites and all-singing, all-dancing celebrations of tunes from musical giants Elton John, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Stephen Sondheim. And that’s not to mention their fabulously festive Christmas concerts, this year presented by audience and TV favourite Hugh Dennis.
"I am delighted to be introducing to you my fourth season as the CBSO’s Music Director, as we start the celebrations for the Orchestra’s Centenary. I am looking forward to sharing some wonderful musical moments with you all. Leading the CBSO is a great honour for me, and I could not be more excited about the journey ahead of us as we continue to set the standard for orchestras around the world."
Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla - Osborn Music Director
